MOSCOW – Sun Interbrew Plc (Lux: SUNB5-LX), a leading brewer in Russia and Ukraine, today announces its financial results for the third quarter 2011.

Operation Highlights
  • CEE volumes decreased by 9.6% in 3Q11and by 3.8% in 9M11.
  • In Russia, volumes decreased by 9.9% for the 3Q11and by 5.3% in 9M11, with difficult volume comparisons due to an exceptionally hot summer in 2010
  • In Ukraine, volumes decreased by 9.1% in 3Q11and by 1.5% in 9M11.
  • CEE EBITDA declined in 3Q11 by 54.6% and by 54.4% in 9M11, as a result of lower volumes, higher input costs and higher distribution expenses
    • In Russia EBITDA decreased by 62.4% for the 3Q11and by 69.2% for 9M11
    • In Ukraine EBITDA decreased by 39.1% for the 3Q11and by 32.5% for 9M11
Russia:
Although market share for 9M11 was below the previous year, we gained market share by volume and by value in 3Q11, driven by our Focus Brands Klinskoe and Bud.
 
Klinskoe performed particularly well, supported by a new campaign. The brand is now the second largest brand in Russia, reaching a share of more than 6%, with the Klinskoe Svetloe half-liter bottle presentation now the largest selling SKU in the market.
 
Bud continues to grow after its launch in May 2010 and now has a market share of over 0.8%. We continue to build awareness for Bud through a broad range of media initiatives including television, social media and out-of-home ads.
 
Ukraine:
Market shared increased 36.1% to 36.2% in 9M11and from 35.5% to 35.7% in 3Q11. Market share gains in 3Q11 and 9M11 were driven by our main brand Chernigivske, which was supported by the launch of new brand graphics, the introduction of PUB lager and the Chezz line extension in 3Q11.

Financial performance in the third quarter
EBITDA declined in Russia in 3Q11 is due to these major factors: lower beer volumes driven by a weak industry, higher Cost of Sales as a consequence of commodity cost increases and higher distribution expenses.
 
The EBITDA decline in Ukraine in 3Q11 is driven by industry weakness leading to lower volumes, higher crop prices and energy costs impact Cost of Sales, and higher distribution expenses.
